Kevin Pouya (born December twenty, 1994), known mononymously as Pouya, is an American rapper from Miami, Florida.[ii]

Career [edit]

Pouya started rapping seriously in 2011,[iii] and dropped out of high school before graduating.[4] For a year afterward leaving school, he worked equally a busboy at a eatery to make ends meet.[5] He teamed up with childhood friend Fat Nick and the two formed the Cafe Boys, a group that subsequently became their tape label. When they were still young, the 2 had a one-act show on YouTube chosen The Nick and Pouya Show.[4] Pouya released his first mixtape titled Fuck It in 2012.[five] He gained notoriety afterward he released the song "Get Buck" in 2013.[6] On November 20, 2013, Pouya released a collaboration EP with The Cool Kids' Sir Michael Rocks titled Gookin'. The two connected after Rocks had moved to Miami.[7]

His fifth solo mixtape Stunna, would be released on May 5, 2014. Lift Magazine would describe the mixtape as Os Thugs-North-Harmony influenced, proverb "he does a great task of molding their manner into his own version with a twist of his own style thrown in there."[8] His adjacent mixtape would be released on March 25, 2015, entitled Southward Side Slugs. The mixtape would contain guest appearances from Sir Michael Rocks, Denzel Curry, SDotBraddy, Alex Wiley, Fat Nick, Germ and Mikey The Magician.[ix] Pouya collaborated with Suicideboys on an EP, $outh $ide $uicide, that was released on September 1, 2015.[x]

In 2016, he released his debut studio album Clandestine Underdog under the Buffet Boys label.[11] [12] The album peaked at #156 on the Billboard 200.[13] In 2017, he was a featured artist in the vocal "On Her Heed" by progressive metalcore band Volumes on their album Different Animals.[fourteen] [15] That same year, he released a collaboration mixtape with Fatty Nick titled Drib Out of School.[xvi] In 2018 he released his second studio album, titled Five Five.[4] [17] [18] On June 30, 2019, Pouya released his third studio album titled, The Due south Got Something to Say. The anthology included guest appearances from Metropolis Morgue, Juicy J and Ghostemane.[19]
